The Tourism Association of Cerro Ena (ATURENA) was founded in 2007 with the intent to develop an eco-friendly, rural tourism and adventure project in the community of San Jerónimo. ATURENA is named after Mount Ena, located on the border of Chirripó National Park (Parque Nacional Cerro Chirripo) and the International park of Friendship (Parque Internacional de la Amnistad) a UNESCO World Heritage site. ATURENA main goal is conservation, protecting the environment and natural resources through sustainable rural tourism. They support several initiatives in the community, including: a brigade of forest firefighters, local trash and recycle disposal services, capacity building courses, reforestation, prevention of illegal hunting and logging, and environmental awareness campaigns in the community. ATURENA is comprised of over 70 families from San Jerónimo and neighboring communities, and each plays a crucial role in rural eco-tourism of the zone. The community of San Jerónimo offers a wide variety of attractions, tours, and other activities developed in conjunction with improving the lifestyle and income of the locals who participate. ATURENA offers a variety of tours and services, all of which you can find more information about on our website!
